Kanak meaning
Kanak (कनक) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin, also used for boys.
Gold; golden
Kanak (कनक) is Sanskrit kanaka, "gold", in its Hindi form, which drops the final short vowel. Monier-Williams gives kanaka as gold and, as an adjective, golden or made of gold. The same word also names several plants, among them the thorn-apple, the champak and the ironwood tree, and the feminine Kanakā is listed as one of the seven tongues of fire. Name lists give "gold", which matches the dictionary, so the popular and the classical meanings are the same. Because the word is short and plain, it also works as the first part of longer names such as Kanaklata. Kanak is mostly given to girls, though some boys bear it too.
