Marceline meaning
Marceline is an international girl's name of French origin (from Latin).
From Latin Marcellina, built on Marcellus, "little Marcus"
Also used to mean: little warrior, dedicated to Mars
Marceline is the French form of Marcellina, the feminine of the Latin name Marcellinus. It is built on Marcellus, which Lewis & Short record as a Roman family name, a diminutive of Marcus, borne by the general who took Syracuse. The Online Etymology Dictionary says Marcus is traditionally linked with Mars, the Roman god of war, which is where name lists get "little warrior" or "dedicated to Mars"; the link is old but not proven. Saint Marcellina was the elder sister of Saint Ambrose of Milan, and Marceline Desbordes-Valmore was a French Romantic poet. It is said mar-suh-LEEN.
