Mayur meaning
Mayur (मयूर) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
A peacock
Mayur (मयूर) is Sanskrit mayūra, "a peacock". Monier-Williams also records a few minor senses, a cock, a plant and an instrument for measuring time, and notes several Sanskrit poets of the name; the peahen is mayūrī. The peacock is India's national bird and holds a special place in Hindu imagery: it is the mount of Kartikeya, and its feather crowns Krishna. In Indian poetry the peacock dancing at the first monsoon clouds is a favourite image of joy. Name lists give "peacock", matching the dictionary. The name is used in Hindi-, Marathi- and Gujarati-speaking families.
