Mrityunjay meaning
Mrityunjay (मृत्युंजय) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
Conqueror of death; a name of Shiva
Also used to mean: Lord Shiva
Mrityunjay (मृत्युंजय) is Sanskrit mṛtyuñjaya, "conqueror of death", from mṛtyu, "death", and jaya, "victory, conquering". Monier-Williams records it as a name of Shiva and as the name of the Rig Veda verse VII.59.12, the Mahamrityunjaya mantra, a prayer to Shiva as Tryambaka for release from death that is still widely recited. It was also used of medicines thought to ward off death. Name lists give "conqueror of death" or "Lord Shiva", matching the dictionary. Mrityunjay is also the title of Shivaji Sawant's well-known Marathi novel about Karna.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Shiva.
