Meenakshi meaning
Meenakshi (मीनाक्षी) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, मी, it is a Simha rashi name (Magha nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Fish-eyed; the goddess worshipped at Madurai
Also used to mean: one with beautiful eyes, a name of parvati
Meenakshi (मीनाक्षी) is Sanskrit mīnākṣī, from mīna, "fish", and akṣi, "eye": a woman whose eyes are shaped like a fish. Name lists usually turn this into "one with beautiful eyes". Monier-Williams knows Mīnākṣī as the goddess worshipped at Madurai, the deified daughter of a Pāṇḍya king, and also as a daughter of Kubera. Britannica describes the great Meenakshi Amman temple in Madurai, built in its present form in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, where Meenakshi, honoured as a form of Pārvatī, is married to Shiva in his form as Sundareshwarar, each with a central shrine. The name is used in many Indian languages, in the south and the north alike.
