Mihir meaning
Mihir (मिहिर) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
The sun; also a cloud, wind, the moon
Mihir (मिहिर) is Sanskrit mihira, the sun. Monier-Williams connects it with the root mih but adds that it is probably the Persian word for the sun; the old Indian lexicographers also give it the senses of cloud, wind and the moon. The word's most famous bearer is the sixth-century astronomer Varāhamihira of Ujjain, whose Pañca-siddhāntikā, Britannica notes, brought together five earlier systems of astronomy, Indian and Western. Name lists today give Mihir as "sun", sometimes "light" or "radiance", in line with the dictionary. The swimmer Mihir Sen, who in 1958 became the first Asian to swim the English Channel, is a well-known modern bearer.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Surya.
