Neelima meaning
Neelima (नीलिमा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, नी, it is a Vrishchik rashi name (Anuradha nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Blueness; dark colour
Neelima (नीलिमा) is the Sanskrit noun nīliman, "blueness" or "darkness", in its nominative form nīlimā. It is built from nīla, "dark blue", with the suffix -iman, which makes nouns of quality; the same ending gives mahimā, "greatness". Monier-Williams cites nīliman from classical poetry. Name lists give Neelima as "blue", "blueness" or "sapphire", close to the dictionary, though some add links to Lakshmi that we could not find in the sources. The name is used in Hindi, Marathi and Telugu, and is also spelt Nilima. Its masculine relative is the shorter Neel, from the same word nīla.
