Prachi meaning
Prachi (प्राची) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
The east, the direction of sunrise
Prachi (प्राची) is the Sanskrit prācī, "the east". It is the feminine of the adjective prāñc, which Monier-Williams gives as "directed forwards", "turned eastward, eastern" and also "previous, prior, former", so the same word covers what lies in front and the direction of sunrise. The dictionary cites prācī, with diś, "direction", understood, from the Shatapatha Brahmana and the Mahabharata. A curious second sense it records is "the post to which an elephant is tied". Indian name lists give Prachi as "east" or as the direction of the rising sun, matching the dictionary.
