Purnima meaning
Purnima (पूर्णिमा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, पू, it is a Kanya rashi name (Hasta nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
The night or day of the full moon
Purnima (पूर्णिमा) is the Sanskrit pūrṇimā, "the night or day of the full moon", built on pūrṇa, "full". Monier-Williams cites it from the Rājataraṅgiṇī, the chronicle of the kings of Kashmir, and from the astronomical Sūrya-siddhānta. The word is familiar from the festival calendar, because several observances fall on a full moon and carry it in their names: Guru Purnima, which honours spiritual teachers in the month of Āṣāḍha, and Buddha Purnima, which marks the Buddha's birth, enlightenment and death. As a given name it is used mainly for girls across India, and it is spelt both Purnima and Poornima.
