Purvi meaning
Purvi (पूर्वी) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, पू, it is a Kanya rashi name (Hasta nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Eastern; an evening rāga in Indian music
Also used to mean: a raga
Purvi (पूर्वी) means "eastern", from Sanskrit pūrva, the direction of sunrise. The Hindī Śabdasāgara gives pūrvī as eastern and also as the name of an evening rāga, a rice grown in the east, and a folk-song style of Bihar. In Hindustani classical music Purvi is one of the ten thāṭs, the parent scales of the Bhatkhande system, and a rāga of the same name belongs to it. Name lists give "eastern" and mention the rāga, in line with the dictionary. Poorvi is another spelling; Purva, a related name, is a separate entry.
