Nritya meaning
Nritya (नृत्या) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
Dancing, acting, gesture, mime
Nritya (नृत्या) comes from Sanskrit nṛtya, "dancing", from the verb nṛt, "to dance". Monier-Williams gives it as dancing, acting, gesture and pantomime, citing the Mahābhārata and classical poetry. In Indian dance theory, nṛtya is the expressive side of dance that tells a story through gesture and expression, as distinct from pure rhythmic dance. Name lists give Nritya as "dance", matching the dictionary. The same root gives Nataraja, the dancing form of Śiva, and the word for a dancer, nartakī.
