Qasim meaning
Qasim (قاسم) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
One who divides or distributes (from qasama, he divided)
Qasim (قاسم) is the Arabic qāsim, "one who divides", the active participle of qasama, "he divided". Lane's entry for the root gives the stronger form qassama, "he distributed it", used of sharing property among a group and of assigning each person's share. A qāsim is therefore one who shares things out. Al-Qāsim was the name of the Prophet Muhammad's first son, who died in childhood, and it gave the Prophet his familiar name Abu'l-Qāsim, "father of Qasim". Name lists give Qasim as "one who distributes", matching the dictionary. In South Asia the name also recalls Muḥammad ibn al-Qāsim, the young Umayyad general who conquered Sindh in 711–712.
