Qurratulain meaning
Qurratulain (قرۃ العین) is a Muslim girl's name of Arabic origin.
Coolness of the eye: that which gladdens and comforts the eye
Also used to mean: coolness of the eyes, delight of the eyes, joy
Qurratulain (قرۃ العین) is the Arabic phrase qurrat al-ʿayn, "coolness of the eye". Lane's lexicon explains the image: tears of joy were said to be cool and tears of grief hot, so a cooled eye is a gladdened one, and qurrat al-ʿayn is whatever brings that comfort. The Quran uses it in the prayer for "spouses and children who are the coolness of our eyes" (25:74), which is why it became a name for a beloved daughter. Name lists give it as "coolness" or "delight of the eyes". The Urdu novelist Qurratulain Hyder made the name famous in India.
