Qanita meaning
Qanita (قانتہ) is a Muslim girl's name of Arabic origin.
Obedient to God; devout, humble in prayer
Also used to mean: pious
Qanita (قانتہ) is the feminine of Arabic qānit, from the verb qanata. Lane's lexicon defines qunūt as obedience, especially constant obedience to God, and records further senses of standing long in prayer and humbling oneself before God; the Urdu word qunūt, the supplication in the witr prayer, comes from the same root. The Quran praises "devout men and devout women" (33:35) and says that Maryam was "one of the devout" (66:12). Name lists give Qanita as "devout" or "pious", matching the dictionary. It is used by Indian Muslim families.
