Ramalingam meaning
Ramalingam (ராமலிங்கம்) is a Hindu and Tamil boy's name.
The Shiva linga at Rameswaram, installed by Rama
Ramalingam (ராமலிங்கம்) is the name of the Shiva linga at Rameswaram, which, as the Tamil Lexicon puts it, Rama is believed to have installed. Liṅga, in Monier-Williams a mark or sign, is the emblem under which Shiva is worshipped in temples. The story goes that Rama worshipped Shiva there on his return from Lanka, which makes the name a meeting point of Vaishnava and Shaiva devotion. Its most famous bearer is Ramalinga Swamigal, Vallalar, the nineteenth-century Tamil saint-poet.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Shiva.
