Rupert meaning
Rupert is an international boy's name of Germanic origin.
A form of Robert (German Ruprecht): hrod-, "fame", and berht, "bright"
Rupert is a sister name of Robert. The Online Etymology Dictionary explains it as probably a blend of German Ruprecht and English Robert, and both go back to Old High German Hrodberht, 'bright with fame', from hrod-, 'fame' or 'glory', and berht, 'bright'. The name came into English use in the seventeenth century through Prince Rupert of the Rhine, the dashing cavalry commander of the English Civil War. Later bearers include the poet Rupert Brooke and the actor Rupert Grint. Baby-name lists give 'bright fame', which matches. It is said ROO-pert.
