Selvi (செல்வி) is the Tamil celvi, formed from celvam, "wealth, prosperity". The Tamil Lexicon gives four senses: Lakṣmī as the goddess of wealth, citing the Tivākaram lexicon; a wealthy woman; a lady of rank, with a line from the Kāñcippurāṇam; and a daughter. In modern Tamil, Selvi is also the usual courtesy title for an unmarried woman, much like "Miss", and it often closes compound names such as Tamilselvi and Kalaiselvi. Name lists give the same meanings: wealth, prosperity or Lakshmi. Selvi is used mainly in Tamil families, and the related word Selvam, "wealth", is itself a name.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Lakshmi.
