Setu meaning
Setu (सेतु) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, से, it is a Kumbh rashi name (Purva Bhadrapada nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A bridge, dam or causeway; a bond
Setu (सेतु) is the Sanskrit setu. In the Rig Veda it is "binding" as an adjective and a bond or fetter as a noun, and from there a ridge of earth, a bank, a causeway, a dike, a dam or a bridge. Its most famous use is Rāma's bridge to Laṅkā, known as the setu or setubandha. Monier-Williams also gives the word for a landmark or boundary, for an established rule, and for a commentary that helps a reader cross a difficult text; the Kālikā Purāṇa even calls the syllable om "the bridge of mantras". Name lists give the same meaning, "bridge". Sethu is the South Indian spelling, as in Sethuraman.
