Shahaji meaning
Shahaji (शहाजी) is a Hindu boy's name of Marathi origin (from Persian shāh).
From Persian shāh, 'king, sovereign', with the respectful Marathi ending -jī
Also used to mean: king of warriors
Shahaji (शहाजी) joins Persian shāh, which Steingass gives as king, sovereign, emperor or prince, to the respectful Marathi ending -jī. Persian titles were common at the Deccan sultanates' courts, where the Bhosale family served. The name belongs above all to Shahaji Bhosale (1594–1664), a general of Ahmadnagar and Bijapur and the father of Shivaji; a later story that he was named after the Sufi saint Shah Sharif rests on a source historians distrust. Monier-Williams also records Śāhajī as a Maratha king of Tanjore to whom several works are ascribed. One name list gives "king of warriors".
