Shanta meaning
Shanta (शान्ता) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
Calm, tranquil, gentle; name of a daughter of Daśaratha
Also used to mean: peaceful
Shanta (शान्ता) is the feminine of Sanskrit śānta, "appeased, calm, tranquil, free from passion", and also soft, gentle, mild, kind and auspicious. Monier-Williams records Śāntā as a daughter of King Daśaratha, adopted by Lomapāda (or Romapāda), king of Aṅga, and married to the sage Ṛṣyaśṛṅga, who later performed the sacrifice that led to the birth of Rāma; in Vālmīki's text she appears as Romapāda's own daughter. Name lists give Shanta as "calm" or "peaceful", the dictionary meaning. In the South the name is often spelled Shantha.
