Virat meaning
Virat (विराट) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
A king who sheltered the Pandavas; cf. virāj, sovereign, splendid
Also used to mean: great, huge, mighty
Virat (विराट) has two Sanskrit roots in view. Monier-Williams records Virāṭa as the king in whose court the Pandavas lived in disguise during the last year of their exile, which gives the Virāṭa Parva of the Mahābhārata its name. The Hindi word virāṭ also continues virāj, whose nominative form is virāṭ: Monier-Williams gives it as ruling far and wide, sovereign and splendid, and as the cosmic being who is the first creation of Brahmā. From this comes virāṭ rūp, the immense cosmic form, and the everyday Hindi sense "huge, vast". Name lists give "great" or "huge". The cricketer Virat Kohli is the best-known bearer.
