Viraj meaning
Viraj (विराज) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
Ruling far and wide, sovereign; excellence, splendour
Viraj (विराज) is Sanskrit vi-rāj, built on rāj, "to rule, to shine". Monier-Williams gives the adjective as ruling far and wide, sovereign, excellent and splendid, used in the Ṛgveda of Agni, Sarasvatī and the Sun, and the feminine noun as excellence, pre-eminence, dignity and majesty. Virāj is also a cosmic being. In the Puruṣa hymn of the Ṛgveda (10.90) Virāj is born from the primal Puruṣa, and Puruṣa again from Virāj, while Manu calls Virāj the first offspring of Brahmā. It is also the name of a Vedic metre of four ten-syllable lines. Indian name lists give Viraj as brilliant, splendid or sovereign, which matches the dictionary.
