Jalaj meaning
Jalaj (जलज) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
Born in water; a lotus; a conch-shell
Jalaj (जलज) is Sanskrit jalaja, from jala, "water", and -ja, "born", so literally "born in water". Monier-Williams lists it for many water-born things, from fish and sea-salt to the conch-shell, and as a neuter noun equal to jalaruh, the day-lotus. Apte's dictionary gives the lotus directly. The lotus is the sense parents choose, and it puts Jalaj beside other lotus names built the same way, such as Pankaj, Neeraj, Saroj and Ambuj. Name lists give "lotus", which matches the dictionaries.
