Aarit (आरित) has the same spelling as the Sanskrit ārita, which Monier-Williams gives as "praised" or "extolled", citing a hymn of the Ṛg-veda. Name lists today do not agree on what Aarit means: some give "one who seeks the right direction", others "righteous" or "honoured". Only the last of these is close to the dictionary sense; we could not find the others in Monier-Williams or Apte, so they appear to be modern meanings attached to the name. As a given name Aarit is recent, and part of its appeal is its short, soft sound, which works easily in Indian languages and in English.
