Aditi meaning
Aditi (अदिति) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, अ, it is a Mesh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Boundlessness, freedom; name of an ancient goddess
Aditi (अदिति) is Sanskrit a-diti, "not bound", and so "free, boundless". Monier-Williams calls Aditi one of the most ancient Indian goddesses, and the dictionary also gives the senses "the earth" and "speech". In the Rigveda she personifies the infinite and is the mother of the Ādityas, a group of sky gods usually led by Varuṇa and including Mitra and Aryaman; later texts also make her the mother of Viṣṇu in his dwarf form. Britannica notes that she was often pictured as a cow, sustaining and nourishing the earth. Indian name lists today give Aditi as "boundless" or "limitless", which matches the dictionary closely. Two unrelated Sanskrit words share the spelling, meaning "destitution" and "devourer".
