Alli meaning
Alli (அல்லி) is a Tamil girl's name.
Water-lily; also the lotus and the inner petals of a flower
Also used to mean: water lily
Alli (அல்லி) is the Tamil word for the water-lily. The Tamil Lexicon gives the Nymphaea lotus, the white water-lily, the lotus itself, and the delicate inner petals and filaments of a flower; Malayalam and Telugu have the same word. Tamil poetry often sets the night-blooming alli beside the day-blooming lotus. The name also belongs to Alli, the legendary warrior queen of Tamil folk tradition, said to have been found on a lily and remembered in tales that marry her to Arjuna. Name lists give "lily", matching the dictionary.
