Karpagam meaning
Karpagam (கற்பகம்) is a Tamil and Hindu girl's name.
The wish-fulfilling tree of heaven
Karpagam (கற்பகம்) is the Tamil form of Sanskrit kalpaka, the tree of paradise that grants every wish. The Tamil Lexicon describes kaṟpakam as a wish-fulfilling tree in heaven, one of the five celestial trees, and also as a temple vehicle carved in its shape; it even calls the coconut palm the kalpaka of this world. The name is linked with Karpagambal, the goddess of the Kapaleeshwarar temple in Mylapore, Chennai, and it begins longer names such as Karpagavalli.
