Anahat meaning
Anahat (ਅਨਹਤ) is a Sikh girl's name of Punjabi origin (from Sanskrit).
Unstruck; (of sound) produced otherwise than by striking
Anahat (ਅਨਹਤ) is Sanskrit anāhata, "not struck", from a-, not, and āhata, struck. The Mahan Kosh explains it as sound produced without any striking and refers it to the anahat shabad, the unstruck divine sound of Sikh and yogic thought that the devotee hears within. The word occurs many times in the Guru Granth Sahib, for example on Ang 236. Monier-Williams adds that in yoga anāhata is the fourth of the mystical circles of the body, the one at the heart. Anahat is a different word from Anhad (ਅਨਹਦ), "boundless". It is given mainly to girls in Sikh families; the Indian squash player Anahat Singh is a well-known bearer.
