Arka meaning
Arka (अर्क) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Bengali usage). By its first sound, अ, it is a Mesh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A ray, a flash; the sun; fire; a hymn of praise
Also used to mean: ray of light
Arka (अर्क) is the Sanskrit arka, from the verb arc, which means both "to shine" and "to praise". Monier-Williams gives it first as a ray or a flash of lightning and then as the sun, along with fire, crystal and copper, and, in the Vedic hymns, a song of praise. It can also stand for the number twelve. The famous Sun Temple at Konark takes its name from koṇa, "corner", and arka, "the sun". Name lists give Arka as "sun" or "ray of light", matching the dictionary. The name is used mainly in Bengal, where it is pronounced Arko.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Surya.
