Asra meaning
Asra (اسریٰ) is a Muslim girl's name of Arabic origin (Urdu usage).
He made to journey by night (Quran 17:1)
Also used to mean: night journey, travelling at night
Asra (اسریٰ) takes its name from the opening of Sura al-Isrāʾ, "Glory be to Him who carried His servant by night" (Quran 17:1). The verb there is asrā, from the root s-r-y, which Lane's lexicon explains as journeying by night; asrā means to make someone travel by night, and al-Isrāʾ is the Prophet's Night Journey to Jerusalem. Name lists give Asra as "night journey". The same Arabic spelling is also the plural "captives" (Quran 8:67); Isra and Israa are related names.
