Bharat meaning

Bharat (भरत) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.

'to be maintained'; Rama's brother and other epic heroes

Also used to mean: India

Bharat (भरत) is the Sanskrit bharata, which Monier-Williams glosses as "to be maintained" and first applies to Agni, the sacred fire kept alive by human care. It became the name of many heroes. The best known are Bharata, son of Duṣyanta and Śakuntalā, whom MW calls the first of India's universal emperors; Bharata, Rāma's younger brother, remembered for his devotion to him; and the ancient sage credited with the Nāṭya-śāstra, the classical manual of drama. MW also records a Bharata after whom the country Bhārata is named, and India's Constitution begins "India, that is Bharat". Name lists often give the name simply as "India".
