Bilqis (بلقیس) is the name that Muslim tradition gives to the Queen of Sheba. The Quran tells how the hoopoe brought Solomon news of a woman ruling Saba with a magnificent throne (27:23), and how she came to Solomon and submitted with him to God (27:44), but it never names her; the name Bilqīs comes from later commentary and legend. The word is not in Lane's Arabic lexicon and its origin is unclear, so on name lists it is simply explained as "queen" or "Queen of Sheba".
