Bitan meaning
Bitan (वितान) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Bengali usage).
A canopy or awning; a garden bower; extension, abundance
Bitan (वितान, Bengali বিতান) is Sanskrit vitāna, from the verb tan, "to stretch", with vi-, "out": something stretched out. Monier-Williams gives extension, abundance and growth, and also an awning, canopy or cover; in ritual texts the word also names the arrangement of the sacred fires. In Bengali the word means a summer-house or bower in a garden, a canopy or a pavilion, as the Samsad dictionary records. Bengali readers know it from Gitabitan, the collected songs of Rabindranath Tagore, whose title joins gīta, "song", with bitān. A separate Sanskrit vitāna means "out of tune", but that word is not the source of the name.
