Deep meaning
Deep (दीप) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, दी, it is a Meen rashi name (Purva Bhadrapada nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A light, a lamp, a lantern
Deep (दीप, Gujarati દીપ) is the Sanskrit word dīpa, "a light, a lamp", from the verb dīp, "to blaze, to shine". Monier-Williams cites it from the household ritual texts, Manu and the Mahābhārata, and the small oil lamp it names is lit in every Indian home at Diwali, whose name comes from dīpāvalī, "a row of lamps". Name lists give Deep the same meaning. It is the root of Deepak, Deepa and Pradeep, and in Punjab it ends many compound names such as Navdeep and Mandeep. On its own, Deep is a short name used for boys in Gujarat and across North India.
