Bodily strength, vigour, energy; vitality; light, splendour
Ojas (ओजस) is Sanskrit ojas, a word found from the Vedas onward for bodily strength, vigour, energy and vitality. In Suśruta's classical medical treatise it is the principle of vital warmth in the body, and the senses of light, lustre and splendour come from the old lexicons. Name lists give Ojas as "strength" or "vitality", in line with the dictionary, and some add "brightness", which follows those lexicon senses. The adjective ojasvin, "full of vigour", gives the related name Ojasvi. The Sanskrit word ends in a consonant, ओजस्, with a halant, but the name is usually written ओजस.
