Geeta meaning
Geeta (गीता) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, गी, it is a Makar rashi name (Dhanishta nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A song; a sacred song or poem setting out doctrine
Geeta (गीता) is Sanskrit gītā, "a song", from the root gai, "to sing". Monier-Williams uses it especially for religious teaching set out in verse by an inspired sage, the sense it has in the titles Bhagavad-gītā, Rāma-gītā and Śiva-gītā. The Bhagavad Gītā, the "Song of the Lord", is the dialogue in the Mahābhārata in which Krishna counsels Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, and it is so well known that it is often simply called the Gītā. That gives the name its devotional weight. Baby-name lists give "song", "sacred song" or "song of the Lord", matching the dictionary. The name is also spelt Gita and, in south India, Geetha.
