Gurlal meaning
Gurlal (ਗੁਰਲਾਲ) is a Sikh boy's name of Punjabi origin.
Gur (the Guru) joined with lāl (beloved; a ruby)
Gurlal (ਗੁਰਲਾਲ) joins gur, the Guru, with lāl. The Mahan Kosh lists many senses of lāl: red or crimson, a beloved or dear one, a son, and, from Persian laʿl, a ruby. The Guru Granth Sahib uses it in more than one of these ways. On Ang 99 Guru Arjan addresses God as lāl, the beloved, and elsewhere the Name of God is called a priceless ruby. The name can therefore be read as the Guru's beloved or the Guru's jewel, and name lists usually give "beloved of the Guru". Gurlal is a traditional Sikh boys' name.
