Jebamalai meaning
Jebamalai (ஜெபமாலை) is a Christian and Tamil boy's name.
Rosary; a string of beads for prayer
Jebamalai is the Tamil word for a rosary used as a name. The Tamil Lexicon records cepamālai as a string of beads used in prayer, built from cepam, "prayer" or "silent recitation", which comes from Sanskrit japa, and mālai, "garland". The same dictionary notes a second sense, a string of gold beads worn as an ornament. Tamil Catholics give the name in honour of the rosary and of Our Lady of the Rosary, known in Tamil as Jebamalai Matha, and it often appears in combinations such as Jebamalai Raj. It is a distinctly Tamil Christian name.
