Kirat meaning
Kirat (ਕੀਰਤ) is a Sikh unisex name of Punjabi origin, used for both girls and boys.
Praise, glory, good name; also a Bhatt poet in the scripture
Kirat (ਕੀਰਤ) is closely tied to Sikh scripture. The Mahan Kosh entry ਕੀਰਤ names Bhatt Kirat, one of the bards who sang the Gurus' praises and whose savaiye are included in the Guru Granth Sahib (Ang 1406), and points to ਕੀਰਤਿ, glory and good name, from Sanskrit kīrti. Spelled ਕਿਰਤ, with a short i, the word instead means work, deeds or conduct, from Sanskrit kṛtya. That second word is the root of Kirat Karo, earning an honest living, one of the three pillars of Sikh life alongside Naam Japo and Vand Chhako. Because both spellings are written Kirat in English, the name can carry either sense, praise or honest work.
