Lata meaning
Lata (लता) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
A creeper, any twining plant; a slender woman
Also used to mean: vine
Lata (लता) is the Sanskrit word latā, a creeper or any creeping, winding plant or tendril. Monier-Williams notes that in poetry a woman's brows, arms, curls and slender figure are often compared to a creeper, and that latā can also mean a slender woman, a string of pearls or a streak of light. In the Mahabharata Latā is the name of an Apsaras, and in the Bhagavata Purana of a daughter of Meru. The name is used across India and is closely tied to the singer Lata Mangeshkar. Latha is the usual South Indian spelling.
