Lohit meaning
Lohit (लोहित) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, लो, it is a Mesh rashi name (Bharani nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Red, reddish; also the planet Mars and the river Brahmaputra
Also used to mean: copper
Lohit (लोहित) is Sanskrit lohita, "red" or "reddish", and also "made of copper or metal". Monier-Williams lists many red things the word names: the planet Mars, a ruby and other red stones, and, in the neuter, blood. It is also an old name of the river Brahmaputra, and the Lohit river of Arunachal Pradesh, a tributary of the Brahmaputra, still carries it. Name lists give the meaning as "red" or "copper-coloured", which matches the dictionary. In Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh the name is usually written Lohith.
