Prayag meaning
Prayag (प्रयाग) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
Place of sacrifice; the sacred confluence of Ganga and Yamuna
Also used to mean: confluence of rivers
Prayag (प्रयाग) is the Sanskrit prayāga, from pra-yaj, "to offer sacrifice", so its first meaning is "place of sacrifice". Monier-Williams records it as the famous pilgrimage site where the Ganga meets the Yamuna and, by tradition, the hidden Sarasvati: the Triveni Sangam at today's Prayagraj, where the Kumbh Mela is held. Other Himalayan river meetings carry the name too, such as Devprayag and Karnaprayag. That is why name lists give "confluence of rivers". The name is used in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
