Bhagirath meaning
Bhagirath (भगीरथ) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
An ancient king who brought the Ganga to earth; probably 'having a glorious chariot'
Also used to mean: the king who brought the ganga to earth
Bhagirath (भगीरथ) is the hero of one of India's best-known river legends. Monier-Williams records Bhagīratha as an ancient king, son of Dilīpa, who brought the sacred Gaṅgā down from heaven and led it to the ocean so that its waters could purify the ashes of the sixty thousand sons of Sagara. The dictionary explains the name as probably from bhagin and ratha, "having a glorious chariot". Baby-name lists give it as the king who brought the Ganga to earth, and Hindi speakers still call a great effort a bhagirath prayas. The Ganga's headstream is named Bhagirathi after him.
