Chinmay meaning
Chinmay (चिन्मय) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
Consisting of pure thought or consciousness
Chinmay (चिन्मय) is the Sanskrit cin-maya, formed from cit, "thought, consciousness", and the suffix -maya, "consisting of, full of". Monier-Williams glosses it as "consisting of pure thought". In Vedānta, cit is the middle term of saccidānanda, "being, consciousness and bliss", a classic description of the supreme reality, so cinmaya describes what is made of that pure consciousness. Name lists give Chinmay as "full of knowledge" or "pure consciousness", close to the dictionary. The word also names the Chinmaya Mission, the Vedānta teaching organisation registered in 1953 by followers of Swami Chinmayananda, whose own monastic name begins with the same word. The feminine form is Chinmayi.
