Chitrangad (चित्रांगद) is Sanskrit citrāṅgada, from citra, "bright, many-coloured", and aṅgada, a bracelet worn on the upper arm. Monier-Williams gives it as "decorated with variegated bracelets" and as the name of a son of Śāntanu, a king and a Gandharva. In the Mahābhārata Chitrangada is Bhishma's half-brother, the elder son of Shantanu and Satyavati, who became king of Hastinapura and was killed young by a Gandharva of the same name. Baby-name lists give it as "of variegated limbs" or "one with a beautiful body", reading citra plus aṅga, "limb", which differs from the dictionary.
