Chaitya meaning
Chaitya (चैत्य) is a Jain and Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Gujarati usage).
The individual soul; a shrine, temple or stupa
Also used to mean: place of worship
Chaitya (चैत्य, Gujarati ચૈત્ય) is a Sanskrit word with two strands of meaning. In philosophy, Monier-Williams gives it as the individual soul. In architecture it names a sacred place: a stupa or memorial mound, a sacred tree on such a mound, and above all a hall or temple of worship, the sense behind the rock-cut chaitya halls of Buddhist and Jain India. Name lists give Chaitya as "place of worship" or "the individual soul", both found in the dictionary. It is used as a boys' name in Gujarati Jain and Hindu families. It is a different name from Chaitanya, "consciousness".
