Mohit (मोहित) is Sanskrit mohita, the past participle of the causative of muh, "to be bewildered". Monier-Williams gives it as stupefied, bewildered or infatuated, and it often appears in compounds such as kāma-mohita, "infatuated by love". The sense is passive: mohita is the one who has been charmed, not the one who charms, and modern Hindi and Urdu use mohit in the same way, for someone captivated or enchanted. Indian name lists usually give "attracted" or "charmed", which follows the dictionary, and sometimes "attractive", which reverses it. That active sense is not in the Sanskrit dictionaries and appears to be a modern reading of the name.
