Mullai meaning
Mullai (முல்லை) is a Tamil girl's name.
Arabian jasmine; the forest-pasture landscape of Sangam poetry; chastity
Mullai (முல்லை) is the Tamil name for jasmine. The Tamil Lexicon lists several jasmines under it, first the Arabian jasmine, and then the forest or pastoral tract, one of the five landscapes of Sangam poetry, whose mood is a wife's patient waiting for her absent husband. It also gives chastity and victory, and names the idyll Mullaippāṭṭu. A famous Sangam story tells how the chieftain Pari gave his chariot to a mullai creeper that had nothing to climb on. Like Malli and Kurinji, it is a pure Tamil flower name for girls.
