Nuha (نہیٰ) is the Arabic nuhā, the plural of nuhya, "intelligence". Steingass's dictionary gives nuhá as intellect and understandings, and nuhya as intelligence, knowledge and prudence; the same root also means to forbid, and Steingass's entry nahy covers both prohibition and prudence. The Quran twice speaks of signs "for people of understanding", ulū l-nuhā (20:54 and 20:128). Name lists give Nuha as "intelligence" or "intellect", which matches. It is sometimes spelled Noha, which in Urdu can be confused with nawḥa, a lament, a different word.
