Paavan meaning
Paavan (पावन) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, पा, it is a Kanya rashi name (Uttara Phalguni nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Purifying; pure, holy
Paavan (पावन) is Sanskrit pāvana, from the root pū, "to purify" or "to cleanse". Monier-Williams gives it as purifying, and also as pure and holy, the sense it keeps in Hindi today, where pāvan describes a sacred place, river or occasion. MW also lists Pāvana as a name of Vyāsa, the sage traditionally credited with the Mahābhārata, and of one of the Viśve Devāḥ, the "all-gods" of Vedic ritual. Name lists give Paavan as "pure", "holy" or "sacred", in line with the dictionary. It should not be confused with Pavan (पवन), "wind", which begins with a short a; the two come from the same root but are different words.
